Dinner With Lucifer
It takes a while for the two of them to get back to normal, or to what passes for normal between a mortal and the Devil. It's a long road in his healing from the battle with Cain, and there have been fits and starts. It has taken Mary this long to realize that despite the fact that Lucifer has lived among humans for a while, he still does not know a lot about how to show or respond to emotions. Mary is perhaps not the best person to teach him, because she has often been described as cold, but her love for Lucifer makes it easy to be warm in his presence. She wants him to realize that it's alright to love someone and to accept love in return.
After a lovely dinner out, they return to his flat, which has thankfully been restored to its former glory. It's still too garish for Mary's taste, but at least the furniture is in one piece again. As she goes to pour them each a glass of whiskey, he sits down at the piano and picks at a few of the keys. Mary places the glasses on top of the piano and sits next to him on the bench.
"If you play something I know, perhaps you can twist my arm and I'll sing along," she says, a devious look on her face.

yes, it's not a song from the right era, but i love it :333
"Is that so?" He grins in return, pressing the unlit cigarette to his mouth to free up his hands.
He plays the first unmistakable bars of The Saints Go Marching In, clunking at the keys as he fishes around in his suit jacket for his lighter. "That do?" He mumbles, grinning around the end of his cigarette as it dangles from his lips.
He fumbles to a stop when he eventually manages to retrieve it from his inside pocket, pausing to light his smoke and have a long, delicious drag. He releases it in an exhale, directing it up towards the lights, watching the plume spread and then dissipate.
Setting the lighter aside, he turns his attention back to the piano, his fingers pausing on the keys, considering. "Do you know this one?"
And he begins to play a rendition of We'll Meet Again, playing it at a soft, gentle pace.
we can roll with it!
"We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day..."

So will you please say, "Hello"
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long...
His eyes wander away from her, down to the keys as he plays and then over to the open doors leading out to his balcony. The evening's been mild enough that he'd left them open before they left and now the thin veneer of his drapes sway in the gentle breeze, drawing his attention.
It's no coincidence that, sitting at the piano bench, they're both looking directly at the North star and, below it, the sickle shape of the moon as clouds begin to roll by. His smile falters just for the barest moment, cigarette bobbing, before he recaptures it and forces it back into place.

For now, she doesn't ask any questions. She keeps singing as he keeps playing. One of her hands moves to gently rub his back, reminding him that she's here with him and that he has nothing to worry about. There's no need to be upset tonight, but if he is, she'll be here to soothe him.
