Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
INDEPENDENT. Mary enjoys being her own woman. She has her own opinions, which she shares, usually without expectation of impunity. For a woman born during the Victorian Era, this is rare. Granted, Mary's views aren't too outlandish, and tend to generally fall in line with the typical views of most upper class ladies of her time, but she still feels free enough to share them. Even though she loves her family and still lives with them, she makes her own choices about what she's going to do with her life.

LOYAL. She is the type of woman that one would want to have in their corner because winning her over probably means that she'll be with you until the end, or until you give her a reason not to be. Mary is extremely loyal to her family and tends to put them above everyone, even if she doesn't always like them (see: Edith). She's also loyal to the people who work for her, people who are loyal to her if you wish to put it that way. Her maid and her butler in particular are recipients of her kindness. Mary will do a lot for a person if she feels that they have earned her loyalty.

PROPER/WELL-MANNERED. Being an upper class lady of refinement, her mannerisms are impeccable. She sits with perfect posture. She sips tea daintily. She's generally polite. Her manners are very well-bred and it's obvious to anyone around her that she's someone of means. This is something that she finds to be important because it is the outer image that she projects to the world. In all things, she's poised and lady-like.

Noteworthy Negative Characteristics:
SNOBBY. Mary tends to think that she's better than everyone else. She has learned over the years to be tactful and not to portray this outright, but the feeling is definitely still there and sometimes it makes itself known in her words and actions. Often she tries to subscribe to the adage of "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all", but sometimes responses cannot be helped.

COLD. She's conversational, but not always very friendly. Close friends are hard to come by for her. She struggles sometimes with feeling emotions and allowing herself to be vulnerable, so it's easier for her to shut people out and not try to feel anything. If she shows emotion, it can be a sign of weakness and then people can use that to hurt her. It's a self-protection measure, but it leaves her coming off as cold to others.

STUBBORN. This is a trait that could go either way, but I've decided to include it in the negative area. Mary is stubborn as the day is long. She likes to have her way and will do her absolute best to make sure that she gets it. This can include batting her eyelashes if she has to, though she's generally pretty persuasive without having to do that. Mary's not known to throw a complete hissy fit, but she will be pouty and moody if forced to go against her instinct or what she believes is the best way of doing something. Mary does not like being backed into corners and would be more likely to lash out at someone if she feels that she has been.
