HISTORY: HERE

PAST GAME MEMORIES: (Past game is [community profile] zhautas.) Mary arrived at the facility on Zhautas in October 2018. She was a volunteer, arrived to help fight a multiversal disease. Apparently, the way that the disease is contained is through sexual contact. She knew this when volunteering, and went in order to help and in order to experience a bit of sexual freedom that is lacking in her home time and place. Mary was initiated rather quickly into the way of life on Zhautas and became much more comfortable with the idea of having multiple partners and sleeping with men she hadn't known for very long. All the while, she became increasingly suspicious of Zenith Corporation, the group running the disease-curing experiments, and whether or not they were doing more harm than good. In March 2019, portals started opening up all around the facility in Zhautas. Some of them took people to other worlds, while some of them allowed others to come in. Mary ended up walking through one of these portals and that's how she ended up in Ainmhian.

PERSONALITY: Mary Crawley is the oldest of Robert, Lord Grantham's, three daughters. She lives at Downton Abbey, her family's huge manor home in Downton, Yorkshire, England. The year for her is 1924.

Mary is a relatively typical loyalist aristocrat who enjoys her life as a member of the upper class. She is extremely proper and well-mannered. At the beginning of the series, she had a tendency to look down on people who were not trained in the ways of the aristocracy (such as her distant cousin Matthew), but has mellowed as the series has continued.

Mary is stubborn and usually willing to share her opinion on something if you ask her about it. She isn't rude, but she's usually not afraid to tell someone that she disagrees with them and why. Obviously, Mary is intelligent, with a quick wit and what in those days was called a sharp tongue but today would be called sarcastic. There are times where she can be selfish. Mary is also very attractive (and knows it) and flirtatious, sometimes using this as a weapon. One time, she flirts with the man her sister Edith is interested in, only to make Edith furious.

She is probably the most conservative of her sisters (compared to Edith, who learned how to drive a car, and Sybil, who married the chauffeur). This is evidenced by her reaction after she allows herself to be seduced by a visitor to the house, only for him to end up dying in her bed. This doesn't upset her so much as the idea that she has been "ruined" has. She spends a great amount of time ruminating over this because she thinks that Matthew, the man she loves, won't accept her if he knows she's had sex before marriage. Over the course of the series, Mary has grown more open to the idea of change in society and in her family's level of importance in it, while her father remains staunchly set in his old ways. She defends Sybil's decision to marry Tom and later supports him when he wants to baptize her niece as Catholic, even when Robert is against it. She and her father frequently butt heads, though it is clear that they love each other and have good intentions, for the most part.

Her foo foo tendencies have also subsided a bit as she's gotten older, and she's proven herself willing to do hard, dirty work when it's necessary. There's an emergency with Downton's pigs and Mary is forced to clean the pen and provide them with water - all in evening wear. If she had refused though, the pigs would have died and Downton would have lost that investment. When she learns that she is to help with the running of the estate, she educates herself on farming methods so that she'll be able to add an intelligent opinion and make the right decisions.

Overall, Mary is extremely loyal to her family (even Edith), both by blood and by acquaintance. In particularly, she's close to Anna Bates, her ladies maid, and Charles Carson, the butler. Anna, being the one who helps dress and tend to her, is a strong confident of hers. When Mary learns that Anna has been sexually assaulted, she wants to do anything she can to help her. Carson has known Mary her entire life and the two have a special bond. She has asked him for advice on more than one occasion and Carson sees her as the daughter he never had.

Mary was also incredibly loyal to and changed by her husband Matthew. He brought out the best in her personality and accepted her as she was. His death was extremely hard on her, setting her into about 6 months of despair before she finally decided to move on with her life, both for herself and for her son George.

At this point in her canon, her husband Matthew is dead. She, her father, and her brother-in-law, Tom Branson have taken charge in the running of Downton, turning it into a working farm that will generate badly needed money for the family.

Mary is a strong woman for just about any time, let alone for 1920s England. She's able to go after what she wants and take charge when necessary.
